I am 32 years old and have been chronically, oft critically ill since I was 14.

Reading over your symptoms, and relating them to my own experiences in diagnosis and profound illness, may I offer a suggestion?

I hate it when people suggest things to me about my health, but I feel compelled to suggest that you be investigated for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

I have many, if not almost all, of your symptoms. I have Ulcerative Colitis (diagnosed at 14), Ehlers-Danlos (diagnosed 2014), and POTS (diagnosed 2014).

Perhaps this is of some help for you. As well, you should know that some EDS can't be totally confirmed by genetic testing because we don't know everything yet about our genes. Meaning, it is possible to have Ehlers-Danlos and not have a known genetic marker for the syndrome.

Offering you much peace.
BriannaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3749687802138692392.post-43043112027054318062014-04-14T23:59:01.126-07:002014-04-14T23:59:01.126-07:00That is awesome! My son and I both rely on medic alert, however I share your problem with metals (your the first I've met who developed sensitivities even if you tolerate it at first-- by any chance do you have the same issue with tapes?
I'd love to connect over email with you as I think we'd have a lot to talk about. I was finally diagnosed with 'severe autoimmune autonomic Ganglionopathy' after over a decade of hearing "the test is not normal... Something is definitely wrong... But we can't quite figure out what". While it's been afar bumpier ride since diagnosis (until 2010 the worst label I had was POTS, and a number of other disabling-but-not-dangerous conditions - in 2010 my entire GI system failed and I've spent the last 4 years on TPN (IV nutrition) with no end in sight. The nerve damage was just too longstanding to recover.
Like you, we traveled this path with 2 young children along for the ride, I am quite familiar with the special blend of guilt, sadness and anger over what my kids lose out on this deal. Like you we work to find that fine balance that maximizes the fun while respecting the medical/energy needs.
Anyways, feel free to send me an email, it's tough to find moms who 'get it'. I thought about writing you then but... there's so much to do and I haven't been active on the net so much lately (new horrible health probs, I will probably start blogging again soon) and I forgot to do it. The post is 6 years old, for goodness sake!

Anyway, I feel your pain. I have one post on my blog about a page on Facebook called "Fibromyalgia is Bullshit" (by now the FB page has been taken down and put up again repeatedly) that's not as old as yours but it is several years old, that I still get occasional wacko comments about. I've started to judge the comments on the basis of if they have any redeeming value at all in my opinion and if they don't, I delete them. That makes me happy. And it all reminds me that there are many unhappy people in the world and I don't know what they have had to deal with in their lives. Some people are still fighting with these Haters, but I've expressed my opinion and fell like it's a wast of my time to pursue such ridiculousness. It sounds like the comment on your blog has taken you on a trip down memory lane and you're observing a lot of positive changes in your life in spite of the chronic illness that hangs on. So Happy New Year and best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous one! All my best,

Sherril Sherrilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06898319570225926653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3749687802138692392.post-3412921281559477282014-01-15T15:55:41.719-08:002014-01-15T15:55:41.719-08:00Wow, Whitni -- that's a lot of meanness you...Wow, Whitni -- that's a lot of meanness you're spewing. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion. For the record, however, my dentist disagreed with your assessment, and I continue to go to her office every six months and as needed. Also, for the record, the hygienist in question apparently had garnered a large number of other complaints from patients and is no longer employed at my dentist's office. (She was not fired because of my complaint. However, eight months later, she no longer worked there and I was told that there had been dozens of patient complaints about rudeness and bullying and she had been let go.)

Meanwhile, I hope you're never in the kind of health crisis I was enduring when I wrote that post six years ago.

Avivahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16411667763810131618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3749687802138692392.post-75682411775534185322014-01-15T14:59:01.881-08:002014-01-15T14:59:01.881-08:00To the person who wrote this ridiculous blog entry...To the person who wrote this ridiculous blog entry. You sound like a total pain in the ass. As a hygienist, I'd never put up with your crap. And by the way, it's below the standard of care to not measure recession and probe depths. The office you go to has the right to excuse you for compromising their license. Suck it up, everyone has hard days but that doesn't give you the right to blame it on someone else. Besides, it's all prep for our trip to Albuquerque in July for Nationals. We'll be there two weeks (!) while both Scott & Ellie compete. It’s important to let them know that dentists want to help them keep their teeth healthy and strong, and aren’t there to hurt them or scare them. I hope you’ve had much better experiences with the dentist than this one, Aviva.Kristal Byrneshttp://www.cocortho.com/noreply@blogger.com
